Situated on 36,000 acres of African bushveld bordering the scenic banks of the Nbesi River, Moditlo Private Game Reserve offers a range of luxurious wildlife encounters and African safari options especially tailored for the discerning traveller.
Moditlo River Lodge sits at the heart of the Blue Canyon Conservancy, a stretch of protected land in close proximity to the world-renowned Greater Kruger National Park and is home to an astonishing array of fauna and flora. Named for the gentle beast of the bushveld, Moditlo means ‘place of the elephant’, and the quiet grace of this extraordinary creature echoes throughout the lodge and its surroundings.
Our 18-bedroom lodge was designed to combine the rustic nature of a bushveld retreat with the style and elegance you’d expect of a first-rate safari destination. Visitors can look forward to every comfort and convenience, including game drives conducted by passionate, knowledgeable field guides; a full-service restaurant that serves the very best in South African wines and cuisine; as well as al fresco boma barbeques prepared by our talented chefs.
Families with kids will be happy to know that we welcome children of 8 years and older. They are allowed on game drives at the manager’s discretion. Alternatively, we are happy to arrange a private vehicle for your family’s exclusive use at an additional cost.

In the event of early departure we may charge for the full original booking.
The following cancellation fees applies on the full value of the booking.
25% cancellation fee if cancelled less than 42 days prior to arrival.
50% cancellation fee if cancelled less than 21 days prior to arrival.
75% cancellation fee if cancelled less than 14 days prior to arrival.
100% cancellation fee if cancelled less than 7 days prior to arrival or no show.

We welcome children from 8 years and older. A child aged between and including 8 – 11 years sharing a room with two
full paying adults, will pay 50 % of the per person sharing rate.
Children over 12 years of age pay the full adult rate. Children in their own room will pay the standard adult rates. Children are allowed on game drives at the manager’s discretion. A private vehicle may also be booked for families with small children.
Hot and humid, summer is known as the wet season, occurring from October through April. The dry and mild winter
months, from May to September, are considered the dry season. It is necessary to pack warm clothing if visiting during
the winter as early morning and evening game drives tend to be cold. During the wet summertime thunderstorms occur
during most afternoons, although it rarely rains throughout the whole day.

Meals at Moditlo are a relaxed affair, and tailored to your individual requirements. Lunch is long, lazy and delicious and
you can even choose to enjoy a special high tea in true Colonial tradition.
Come dinner time our restaurant, Medium Rare, prepares a feast that can be served in the thatched dining area or around the campfire in our open-air boma. Settle in for the evening and watch as our inspired chefs prepare delicious South African dishes to tempt your taste buds. Afterwards, stick around for a drink or a chat and while away the evening around the crackling fire.

From Hoedspruit:
Take the R40 from Hoedspruit in the direction of Klaserie and Eastgate Airport. Moditlo Private Reserve entrance is 16km
from Hoedspruit on the right hand side, (pass the Kapama main gate on the left). Follow Moditlo River Lodge signs once
inside the Reserve.
From Eastgate Airport:
Turn right at the airport gate in the direction of Hoedspruit. When you get to the T-Junction just after the control gate
turn left on the R40 in the direction of Klaserie. Moditlo Private Reserve main entrance is 10 km from the T-Junction on
the right hand side. Follow Moditlo River Lodge signs once inside the Reserve.
From Orpen Gate:
When leaving Kruger, continue straight in the direction of Hoedspruit. After 40 km’s you will get to a T-Junction, turn
right in the direction of Phalaborwa / Klaserie. After 1 km turn right on the R40 in the direction of Phalaborwa /
Hoedspruit. The main entrance to Moditlo Private Reserve is after 5 km to the left hand side. Follow Moditlo River Lodge
signs once inside the Reserve.
